Take It Back
Cleaning up, knowing you got one more chance
Hard to do when she’s giving you that warning glance
Feeling like you’re walking on shells
Hope at the end of the night you’re not stuck in hell.
Take it back, don’t look at me like that
I know I fucked up but I can’t take it back.
Get in the car and we’re ready to go
Feels like a good night but how was I to know.
Pull up the drive, 40oz in hand
Maybe a two-six would have been a better plan.
No one’s surprised I get shitfaced, smashed
Morning rolls around, I guess this is the last time
She will ever belong to me
Sleeping in for the nights I didn’t sleep at all
Falling back from the times where all I did was fall
Calling off always staying up until last call
Making up for when we didn’t make up at all
Waking up and the room starts to spin
Hoping that I didn’t go and do it again
Head is throbbing, can’t remember a thing
My stomach drops when the phone starts to ring
I know it’s her and it’s gonna bad
But I answer even though I wish that I never had
I try my best to apologize
She says “I’ve heard it all before but it’s all just been lies”
I understand what I did wasn’t right
But don’t throw it all away ‘cause of one stupid night
This has happened before, it’s something we can get past
She said “I’m done forgiving” now this is the last time
She will ever belong to me
Sleeping in for the nights I didn’t sleep at all
Falling back from the times where all I did was fall
Calling off always staying up until last call
Making up for when we didn’t make up at all

The Getaway

The Getaway
It comes in phases
We go through stages
I wish we could act our age- it
Seems contagious
These outrages
Now there’s no one here to save us
And all the time spent wondering
How you could ever let me in
And all the days that we would lose
On nights that you just had to win
Tonight you’ll fall asleep alone
And I won’t fall asleep at all
So don’t be waiting by the phone for me to call
Cause I am going out tonight
I gotta get away from here
And I will not be back tonight
Not until the coast is clear
And I am going out tonight
Cause I got better things to do
And I will not be back tonight
I gotta get away from you
It’s so pathetic
Knew you’d regret it
The exact moment you said it
But instead it
Got misread it
Left no way I could forget it
And all the time spent arguing
About how we argue too much
And all the words that we have said
They never meant a thing to us
Tonight you’ll fall asleep alone
And I won’t fall asleep at all
So don’t be waiting by the phone for me to call
Cause I am going out tonight
I gotta get away from here
And I will not be back tonight
Not until the coast is clear
And I am going out tonight
Cause I got better things to do
And I will not be back tonight
I gotta get away from you
Gotta get away from you tonight.

How is it that every song I hear
Sounds a little bit –
No pretty much exactly
Like it’s about us
And why does every single guy I know
Have a story of a time
When he was in the same position
And I’m
Wondering if every girl out there
Knows exactly why you’re doing
What you’re doing
When you do it
And why, if everybody has been here before
No one told me to expect it
To accept it
And to be prepared to
Lose my best friend
And to pretend
That I will be fine in the end
Repent
And be content
With memories of the time we spent
Deny
Act like I
Could feel again if I just try
Go on
Move along
And never write another song
Everybody is so quick to point out
That they’ve been there
And they’ve done it
That they ran that race and won it
Everybody gives the same advice
You shouldn’t change the way you live
You have so much more to give
You’re too nice
But nobody knows the way you and I were
We were special
We were perfect
Yet apparently so regular
But if everybody has been here before
Then I guess I will survive
Barely alive
Uncompromised, except for
Lose my best friend
And to pretend
That I will be fine in the end
Repent
And be content
With memories of the time we spent
Deny
Act like I
Could feel again if I just try
Go on
Move along
And never write another –
Line
Never play another chord
Leave my guitar alone and bored
Just like me
There won’t be
Another song to sing off-key
And play to her
I know for sure
That no one here has got the cure
It would be wrong
To sing along
So I won’t write another song

Way Better Than A Seadoo

It seems the week is over
Not spending tonight sober
It’s time to find what we left behind
We’re picking it up where we were last time
The night is just beginning
Already my blood’s thinning
Time will fly tonight
Living for today, living for tonight
Dying for the morning light
OH
A bunch of faces that we all know
At the places that we all go
And in the morning you might be found
Sleeping with the bottles on the ground
I spent the whole week thinking
Of when I would start drinking
Day after day of passing the time
Leads me to a night of making it mine
The same old conversation
Is where I find salvation
Time will die tonight
Living for right here, living for right now
Dying to survive somehow
OH
A bunch of faces that we all know
At the places that we all go
And in the morning you might be found
Sleeping with the bottles on the ground
Don’t know how this came together
But tonight, it could be the night I think
And I know it won’t last forever
So I’ll just settle for A-NOTH-ER DRINK

Obviously About You

It’s coming back
I wish it wasn’t but it’s
Just too hard to pick up my guitar
And start to play without hearing your name
And I’m thinking back
I wish I wasn’t but it’s
Hard to distract
A mind that doesn’t want it
Memory invades, reality fades
I hate to admit I really miss it
And it’s something I hate to say
But I’ll say it
I’m ready whenever you are
And who would have thought
That a night on the dock
And a walk down the beach
Would leave both of us each
Standing there, nose to nose
On the tips of your toes
You would mean more than summertime to me
It’s coming back
It’s coming back to bite me
I look bad; it’s getting out of hand
It’s just too late, accepted my fate
It’s a fact; I’m still attracted to you
I did exactly what I wanted to do
Said my peace, I’ll sign the release
I’m happy to say I’ll be on my way
There’s something I have to say
So I’ll say it
Be happy where ever you are
And who would have thought
That a night on the dock
And a walk down the beach
Would leave both of us each
Standing there, nose to nose
On the tips of your toes
You would mean more than summertime to me
It’s coming back
It’s coming back now
I remember the look
The look on your face
The face on my mind
My mind’s a disgrace
I remember the look
The look on your face
The face on my mind
My mind’s been erased
And who would have thought
That a night on the dock
And a walk down the beach
Would leave both of us each
Standing there, nose to nose
On the tips of your toes
You would mean more than summertime to me
